Goal: Introducing students to the basics of computers and information technology, learning to work with MS Windows and MS Word and Excel software packages.
Outcome: Upon passing the exam, the students will be able to: use MS Windows and the MS Word and Excel program packages; independently handle any given task in these software packages and operating system.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Definition, creation and development of information technology and computers.
  2. Computers: the history of development.
  3. Supercomputers. Functional components of a computer’s system.
  4. Operating system.
  5. System software.
  6. Application software.
  7. Computer system architecture.
  8. Processor.
  9. Memory.
  10. Controllers, buses and interface.
  11. Magnetic storage. Magnetic tape. Floppy disk. Hard disk.
  12. Optic storage. CD-ROM, DVD, USB.
  13. Graphics card. Sound card. Network interface card.
  14. Input devices.
  15. Output devices.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Getting to know a computer’s components; working in MS Windows/MS Word and Excel.
