Requirements: Knowledge of management.
Goal: Introducing students to the contemporary concept of HR management, which is to say, to a strategic and coherent approach to managing the most valuable asset within an organization – people; acquiring knowledge on methods and techniques of HR management that are necessary in achieving full efficiency and effectiveness of the employees.
Outcome: The students will gain insight into the principles and different aspects of HR management, as well as the importance of HR management in achieving company goals. They will be able to analyze the status and development of human resources as an indispensable element of a successful business strategy and company policy, both independently and within a team.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Human resources as a specific resource; theoretical models of HR management – evolution; period up until the Industrial Revolution; scientific management – Taylorism.
  2. Theoretical models of HR management – evolution; Fordism; development after the Great Depression; HR management; McDonaldization; trends at the beginning of the new millennium.
  3. Elements of HR management; external elements of HR management; internal elements of HR management.
  4. Defining the function of HR management; goals and characteristics of HR management; basic functions of HR management
  5. Anticipating the need for human resources; HR planning; work analysis.
  6. Recruitment and selection of human resources; selecting employees; selection methods.
  7. Employee motivation; motivation theories; measuring employee motivation and satisfaction.
  8. Reward and motivation strategies; material reward strategy; non-material reward strategies; other non-material motivation strategies.
  9. Employee training and development; organizational strategy and HR development strategy; socialization within the organization.
  10. Training techniques; evaluating training and development.
  11. Evaluating employee efficiency; evaluating employees' work effectiveness; methods of evaluation; interviews on the results of evaluation.
  12. Competency and career development; definition of competency; approaches to HR development; career development.
  13. Employee rights and safety; rights and obligations contained in the contract; occupational safety and health.
  14. Special subjects within HR management; professional stress.
  15. Fluctuation; absenteeism.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
