Computer Aided Garment Manufacturing Course code: PRK 221074 | 7 ECTS credits

Basic information
Level of Studies: Undergraduate applied studies
Year of Study: 3
Semester: 6
Requirements: Basic knowledge of computers.
Goal: Introducing the students to the theoretical and practical foundations needed to apply computers in the construction of men’s, women’s, and children’s garments. Adopting lasting knowledge needed to prepare the production with the help of a computer (CAD/CAM systems).
Outcome: Upon passing the exam, the students will be able to: explain the basic configuration of the CAD system, i.e. prepare garment construction using the CAD system; prepare the patterns for digitalization; model, complete, grade and fit pattern parts into the lay plan; save, convert, and export data on pattern parts of individual garments.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Development and application of the CAD/CAM system in apparel construction.
  2. Configurating the CAD system, input and output units.
  3. CAD software packages in apparel construction.
  4. Preparing the patterns for digitalization.
  5. Techniques for creating basic pattern parts.
  6. Techniques for modeling and remodeling pattern parts.
  7. Methods used in garment grading.
  8. Preparing pattern parts for manual and automatic fitting into the lay plan.
  9. Monitoring production with the CAM system.
  10. Development tendencies in the application of computers in apparel construction.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Getting to know the working environment. Basic program parameters. Working with points. Working with lines. Basic garment construction. Grading the pattern parts.
