Requirements: Knowledge of textile fibers, structure and properties of textile materials.
Goal: Introducing the students to contemporary technical textiles, new high-performance materials, and the application of technical textile in various areas of life.
Outcome: Upon passing the exam, the students will be able to: classify technical textile and choose the most important technical textile products according to the field of intended use, including the choice of raw materials and production technologies; differentiate between individual commercial technical textile products and assess which of those would be best suited for any given situation.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Modern technical textiles: development and classification, raw materials, applications.
  2. Modern technical textiles: development and classification, raw materials, applications.
  3. Agrotextiles.
  4. Geotextiles.
  5. Construction textiles. Industrial textiles.
  6. Textiles used in healthcare.
  7. Protective textiles. Apparel textiles. Transport textiles. Textiles used in interior design. Textiles used in packaging.
  8. Technical textiles used in sports and recreation.
  9. Technical textiles for environmental protection.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Introduction to the commercial products in the field of technical textile – agrotextile, geotextile, construction textiles, industrial textiles. Laws and regulations concerning protective textiles. Introduction to the commercial products in the field of technical textile – healthcare textiles, protective textiles, etc.
