Requirements: Basic knowledge of chemistry, textile fibers and mechanical textile technologies.
Goal: Introducing the students to the finishing processes (preparations, dyeing, printing, finishing) for different textile materials.
Outcome: Upon passing the exam, the students will be able to: choose finishing processes for textile materials according to their application, with a particular focus on ecologically acceptable practices; calculate the composition of a finishing solution according to a given set of parameters.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Textile finishing. Properties of the textile materials relevant to the finishing processes.
  2. Auxiliary materials for textile finishing processes. Mediums, energy sources, machines and plants used in textile finishing processes. Application of chemical agents in textile finishing processes.
  3. Preparatory processes for textile finishing of different materials (composition and intended use).
  4. Textile dyeing.
  5. Textile dyeing.
  6. Textile printing.
  7. Textile printing.
  8. Textile finishing – definition, classification and preparatory processes. Conventional processes of textile finishing for materials of different composition and intended use.
  9. „Special“ finishing processes for different materials.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Calculating the composition of a textile finishing bath. Preparatory processes in textile finishing – factory visit. Calculating the composition of a textile dyebath. Textile dyeing – factory visit. Flat screen printing – creating printing forms at the school printing classroom. Textile printing – factory visit. Choosing conventional textile finishes according to its composition and intended use. Choosing „special“ textile finishes according to its intended use. Textile finishing – factory visit.
