Textile Testing Course code: IST 003059 | 6 ECTS credits

Basic information
Level of Studies: Undergraduate applied studies
Year of Study: 3
Semester: 5
Requirements: Knowledge of basics of mathematics, textile fibers, and textile material properties.
Goal: Introducing students to the properties of textile materials with a particular focus on their practical application. Training students to choose appropriate raw materialy; testing fibers, yarns and fabrics at the laboratory. Introducing students to the modern physical, chemical and mechanical methods for testing textiles. Training students to use statistical processing of the data obtained through measurements and testing with the goal of managing the production process.
Outcome: Upon fulfilling their pre-exam obligations and passing the exam, the students are trained to successfully perform textile testing and provide and evaluation of quality.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Methods and classification of testing. Standards in the textile industry. Fiber, yarn and fabric sampling.
  2. Introduction to the statistical processing of data in textile. Statistical set. Average values and dispersion measurements. Ranked data. Graphical and table representation of results. Asymmetry and excess.
  3. Interval estimation. Histogram. Graphical representation of results. Sample-based statistical evaluations. Humidity. The effect of humidity on textile.
  4. Fabric moisture. Conditioning the textile material. Testing for the presence of foreign matter in textile.
