Requirements: Knowledge of the technology of different textile materials; structure and characteristics of textile materials; basic physics and mathematics; apparel technology.
Goal: Introducing the students to the quality control for textile products (textile fibers, yarns, fabrics, knits, nonwovens, clothing, blankets, mattresses, duvets, pillows, bedding and houshold textile, floor coverings, textile used in healthcare, personal protective equipment), with particular a focus on the manufacturing process.
Outcome: Upon passing the exam, the students will be able to: identify methods for testing different textile products, which support quality control; analyze the results of these testings; evaluate the quality of different textile products; determine whether or not the products comply with the standards for quality control; identify the mistakes in the manufacture of apparel products and apply appropriate corrective measures.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. The significance of quality control in the textile industry.
  2. Determining the compliance of textile products with relevant standards.
  3. Regulations and standards used in marking and labeling textile products.
  4. Controling the quality of fibers and yarns.
  5. Controling the quality of yard goods (fabrics, knits, nonwovens, etc.)
  6. Controling the quality of blankets, mattresses, duvets, pillows, bedding and household textile.
  7. Controling the quality of textile used in healthcare.
  8. Controling the quality of textile floor coverings.
  9. Controling the quality of personal protective equipment.
  10. Controling the quality of apparel manufacturing.
  11. Controling the quality of finished garments.
  12. Applying mathematical-statistic methods in processing the results. Control charts and measurement uncertainty.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Practical classes closely follow theoretical instruction; the course includes visits to institutes which perform quality control for textile products.
