Requirements:
Knowledge of the basics of mechanical engineering.
Goal:
Introducing the students to the characteristics of machines and devices, work parameters and applied mechanisms, and the application of microprocessor-based equipment in various machines and devices. Developing the ability to determine the best working conditions and choose a technological approach which would allow for maximum productivity while maintaining product quality.
Outcome:
Upon passing the exam, the students will be able to: classify machines according to groups; describe their application; recognize parts, structures, and the way in which machines and devices work; recognize different types of stitches, and the machines which produce them; calcluate the consumption of thread for different stitch types and the production capacity of a single, or several machines.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
- Classification of machines, devices and apparel production plants.
- Machines and devices for preparation and pattern making.
- Stitches.
- Sewing machines and devices.
- Finishing machines and devices.
- Auxiliary machines and devices.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
- Material inspection; number of layers in a pattern stack. Characteristics of pattern cutting blades. Calculating thread consumption. Calculations for machine gears. Effective capacity of sewing machines.
