Requirements:
Goal: The objective of the course is to help students of civil engineering and architecture to master the principles and methodology of safety and health at work in the construction industry and to become familiar with the relevant legal regulations.
Outcome: Capablity to understand the procedures of direct executors safety at work according to types of works and structures, as well as the risks of adverse events in the construction industry.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Current approach to safety and health protection at work in the construction industry.
  2. Domestic legal regulations. Law on Safety and Health at Work. Rule book on the content of elaboration on construction site arrangement. Regulations on safety at work in construction works execution.
  3. Regulation on safety and health at work at temporary and mobile construction sites. Review of works with an increased risk of injuries and occupational diseases. Site registration. Safety and health measures at construction sites. Content of the plan for safe and healthy work at the construction site.
  4. Professional instructions for developing the methodology of review and testing work equipment and working environment.
  5. Other legal provisions. Regulations on the content and method of issuing the report form on injury at work, occupational diseases and diseases related to work. Regulations on measures and norms of protection at work against noise in work areas. Rules on devices of personal protection at work and personal protective equipment. Rules on keeping records of safety at work. Regulations on safety at work when loading cargo onto lorries and its unloading from such vehicles.
  6. Forreign regulations. Directive 89/391 ecc – introduction of measures to improve safety and health at work. Guidelines for risk assessment of the European Union – Agency for public health and safety at work.
  7. Manual for risk assessment – European agency for public health and safety at work. Design phase. Organizational phase. Construction phase. Checklists at a site.
  8. Implementation of protective measures. Rules on the manner and procedure of conducting professional supervision during the construction of a facility. Rules on the content and method of carrying out technical inspection and issuing use permit.
  9. Obligations of construction companies arising under the law.
  10. Safety and security of products and services in the construction industry.
  11. System of security and safety at work as an integrated management system (Integrated Management System): QMS, EMS, OHSAS, RMS, AA 1000, SA 8000th.
