Goal:
Introduce students to the new role of cost accounting, as an internal economy of the company, to define the information for the business decision-making process.
Outcome:
Students will be able to: • understand the competencies and responsibilities of the company's management, • understand the business decision-making process, • define information for the management staff, • define valuable information for business decision making, • use cost accounting as a part of management accounting.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
- Competencies and responsibilities of the company's management,
- Requirements for information for the decision-making process;
- Value of information for decision-making,
- Incremental analysis (relevant cost approach, marginal analysis, or differential analysis),
- The concept of opportunity costs,
- Standard and specific information regards costs and effects,
- Integration of cost-benefit analysis into the management accounting system.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
- 1. Costs, benefits, and value: context, concepts, and approach. 2. Examples of the internal economy of transport operators and other companies. 3. Seminar paper and presentations on examples of transport companies.
