Requirements:
Goal: Acquiring appropriate theoretical and practical knowledge in operations research. Application of operational research methods, and techniques in traffic and transportation planning, and organization.
Outcome: Students will be able to apply methods and techniques of operational research for solving traffic and transportation problems.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Introduction to operational research
  2. Linear programming
  3. Integer Programming
  4. Multiple-criteria decision-making
  5. Fuzzy logic systems
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. 1. Linear programming model formulations, and settings.
2. The Graphical Simplex Method.
3. The Simplex Method in Tabular Form.
4. Transportation problem - Methods of finding the initial solution for a transportation problem. 
5. Transportation problem - Methods for finding the optimal solution for the transportation problem.
6. Degeneration of transport problem (Graphical, and mathematical approach in problem-solving). 
7. Integer Programming: The Branch and Bound Method. 
8. Assignment problem in operation research. 
9. Multiple-criteria decision-making (Model for determining the weight coefficients, and Models for evaluating alternatives). 
10. Fuzzy logic and fuzzy systems.
