Requirements:
Goal: To acquire appropriate theoretical and practical knowledge about factors and risks that threaten traffic safety, procedures (methods) for monitoring and controlling these risks and the regulatory framework for the application of these procedures (methods).
Outcome: To enable students to properly assess the risks that threaten safety and choose the optimal measures for their control, as well as to be able to apply them efficiently and effectively.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Railway safety system, basic concepts and elements, correlative dependence with other aspects in railway traffic.
  2. Safety management system.
  3. Active and passive safety in transport and traffic.
  4. Railway traffic safety factors.
  5. Correlative dependence between individual safety factors.
  6. Normative acts of traffic safety.
  7. European railway regulatory framework.
  8. Interoperability on railway, basic concepts and requirements.
  9. Railway traffic safety management, safety methods, safety indicators, safety objectives and safety level assessment.
  10. Risk management.
  11. Monitoring and control of railway traffic safety.
  12. Research and analysis of accidents and incidents in railway traffic, causes and consequences, classification and model of their occurrence.
  13. Technical factors, human factor and other factors of railway traffic safety.
  14. Expertise of accidents and incidents.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. The exercises are audio-graphic, graphic-analytical and field tests at stations, depots and sections of the railway. The seminary work includes the implementation of the risk assessment procedure according to the common safety method.
