Requirements:
Goal: Acquisition of knowledge about antennas, radiation, and propagation of radio waves, radio systems on railways, transmission systems using fiber optics.
Outcome: With the acquired knowledge, the student understands the operation of radio systems and has a good basis to upgrade the knowledge to work with specific radio systems and transmission systems using waveguides.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Propagation of radio waves through a homogeneous medium
  2. Interaction of radio waves with matrix
  3. Rejection and refraction of the radio waves
  4. Absorption, dispersion, diffraction of radio waves
  5. Frequency ranges and mode of radio waves propagation
  6. Dipole and radiation radio waves
  7. Antenna radiation diagram
  8. Fading, types of fading
  9. UKT systems
  10. Railway ground train radio system
  11. Light guiding mechanism
  12. Fiber optic structures
  13. Photo detectors
  14. Optical reflectometer
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Examples are analyzed in auditory, demonstration, and discussion exercises, and problem tasks from the items of theoretical teaching are considered.
