Requirements:
Goal: To gain knowledge about the basics of railway mechanization to perform works on the railway, and measuring vehicles for testing and assessing the condition of the railway.
Outcome: Upon completion of this course, students are able to identify the main assemblies of railway vehicles, to explain their purpose. To apply this knowledge in maintenance of railway vehicles.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Classification of rail vehicles according to their purpose and construction
  2. Transport and propulsion rail vehicles
  3. Basic functional-exploitation characteristics of railway vehicles and railway mechanization
  4. Track adjustment machines
  5. Measuring vehicles for testing and assessing the condition of the railway.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Exercises define the elements for the preparation of a seminar paper for the specific vehicle. At the field exercises, students get acquainted with specific rail vehicles and the technological process of working with them.
