Requirements:
Goal: Introducing students to the basic terms and definitions in the field of traffic and transportation, the main transport modes and their characteristics, legal framework, the main factors that have an impact on traffic and transportation development, the brief history of traffic and transportation, the principles of traffic and transportation planning, the concept of sustainable transport, the impact of traffic and transportation on the environment.
Outcome: Students will be able to recognize the main characteristics of transport modes and performance indicators, to describe the factors that have an impact on the development of traffic and transportation, to understand the importance of national and international legislation in the traffic and transportation sector, to describe traffic and transportation planning principles, to understand the philosophy of sustainable development, and to recognize the impact of traffic and transportation on the environment.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Basic terms and definitions in the field of traffic and transportation.
  2. Traffic and transportation engineering as a unique multidisciplinary science.
  3. The main transport modes, their technical and exploitation characteristics, and performance indicators.
  4. National and international legislation and standards for the field of traffic and transportation.
  5. Basic factors that have an impact on traffic and transportation.
  6. The brief history of traffic and transportation.
  7. The principles of traffic and transportation planning
  8. National and international traffic and transportation policy and sustainable development strategy.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Practical instruction is followed by a lecture program. 1. Basic elements of ground infrastructure, vehicles, and signaling systems by transport modes. 2. Transportation system of the Republic of Serbia (railway network, road network, cycling network, inland waterways and ports, airports, intermodal terminals, post system, telecommunication system, oil and gas pipeline system, border crossings, coding of road and railway lines, and airports). 3. Main international lines (European Agreements AGR, AGC, AGTC, AGN), and Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). 4. National and international transport statistics. Basic indicators and modal split. 5. Traffic and transportation in the Spatial Plan of the Republic of Serbia. 6. Traffic and transportation in the General Urban Plan.
