Requirements:
Goal: Acquiring appropriate theoretical and practical knowledge, methods, and information related to railway passenger transport. Acquiring knowledge for analysis and evaluation of the role, and possibilities of railway passenger transport on the transport market.
Outcome: Students will be able to: • understand and describe the problem of development and current position of railway passenger transport on the transport market, • define the factors that determine the position of the railway on the passenger transport market, • define basic elements and their impact on the formation of prices in passenger transport, • understand tariff systems, the structure of railway tariffs, and independently construct tariff table in domestic railway passenger transport, • practically apply passenger tariff in domestic and international railway passenger transport, • understand transport policy and strategy of transport development of the European Union, • understand new concepts of railway passenger transport and the process of restructuring the railway transport sector.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. The concept, elements, and functioning of the transport market.
  2. Demand forecasting.
  3. Basic elements for forming the level of railway transport prices
  4. Tariff theories, tariff principles, and railway tariff system.
  5. Structure of railway tariffs and their characteristics.
  6. Theory of construction of tariff tables in domestic and international railway transport.
  7. Transport policy and strategy for the development of railway transport in the European Union.
  8. Uniform rules for railway development and charging system for railway infrastructure.
  9. Traffic policy and strategy for the development of railway traffic and transportation in the Republic of Serbia.
  10. The process of restructuring the railway system.
  11. Changes expected in the railway passenger transport market.
  12. Regulatory framework for passenger transport.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. 1. Practical examples of predicting the volume of passenger transport. 2. Practical application of tariff principles. 3. Construction of tariff table in passenger transport, calculation of travel cost, discounts, and special offers. 4. Comparative analysis of the passenger volume and the Serbian Railways tariff system and the tariff systems of European Union countries. 5. Solutions for the improvement of railway passenger transport.
