Requirements:
Goal: To gain knowledge about structural elements of railway tracks, structural elements of tracks, elements of railway routes and route design, railways maintenance.
Outcome: The students will be able to understand the issue of the railway tracks, with elements of the route as well as structural elements of the tracks.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Concept and classification of railway tracks
  2. Development of railway tracks
  3. Structural elements of tracks: rails, fastening system, sleepers, ballast bed
  4. Design and geometry of railway track: track gauge, track with continuously welded rails, and super elevation of outer rail in curves (cant), cant deficiency
  5. Special constructions track
  6. Geometrical analysis of railway routes
  7. Railways maintenance
  8. Characteristics of urban and suburban railways.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Practical teaching is done through the preparation and presentation of seminar papers. Seminar papers include the exercise and layout design of track structure: rail profiles, rail fastening systems, design of railway track in curves, track alignment, topographic maps, and geometrical analysis of railway routes.
