Requirements:
Goal: The aim of the course is for students to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of electrical materials for their practical application.
Outcome: Preparation for professionally applied subjects and work in the profession. The student has theoretical knowledge of physics and electrical materials as well as practical knowledge of the application of various materials on the railway.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Material structure: chemical bonds, monocrystalline structures, crystal imperfection, polycrystalline structures, non-crystalline structures (amorphous materials)
  2. Examination of material structure: diffraction methods, microscopic methods, defectoscopic methods.
  3. Division of electrical materials: Division of electrical materials according to the size of the energy gap and specific electrical resistance
  4. Energy gap engineering
  5. Semiconductors: the principle of conducting electricity
  6. Conductors: conductive properties of materials, high conductivity metals, high electrical resistance materials, heaters and resistors, special conductive materials: thermocouples, fuses, contact materials, and electrochemical sources.
  7. Superconductors
  8. Dielectrics: electrical polarization, insulating materials, cables, capacitor materials, capacitors, special dielectric materials: converters, displays, memories.
  9. Magnets: magnetic arrangement, magneto-soft materials, coils, transformers and relays, magneto-hard materials, magnets, and memories.
  10. Methods of testing electrical materials: determination of energy gap, determination of transport characteristics, determination of dielectric characteristics, determination of magnetic characteristics.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Discussion-auditory demonstration exercises.
