Requirements:
Goal: To gain knowledge about the functioning of the railway network, as well as about the basic laws and indicators of the work and functioning of the railway as a system.
Outcome: Upon completion of the course, the student will learn the terminology from the exploitation of the railway freight and passenger traffic, to analyze quantitative and qualitative indicators of work in freight and passenger rail transport. It will master the optimization of the use of freight wagons and locomotives. Apply the acquired knowledge in the development of the transport plan and analysis of the use of the wagons.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Basic traffic-exploitation characteristics of the railway
  2. Technical means of railway traffic (railway, cars, locomotives).
  3. Indicators of railway network operation
  4. Use of freight cars
  5. Productivity of freight cars
  6. Schedule the work fleet of the network
  7. Quantitative and qualitative indicators of work and use of passenger cars
  8. Basic indicators of locomotive use.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. During the exercises, a seminar paper related to the plan of transport of goods is prepared. On the example of the simple railway network, based on the input data on the number of cars on the railway network, the formation of the plan of transport of goods is performed, and determine the quantitative and qualitative indicators of the railway network.
