Requirements:
Goal: The course goal is acquiring basic knowledge in the field of Motive Power Operation as a prerequisite for proper work organization of Motive Power and their personnel in real exploitation conditions. Acquiring basic knowledge for defining the traction costs for passenger and freight trains with different types of Motive Power on different traction sections. Get acquainted with the basic characteristics and importance of train care facilities and their impact on maintenance and Motive Power Operation.
Outcome: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to propose the required number of Motive Power and their staff, to develop a schedule of their work, to calculate the costs of train traction, to explain the purpose for the Motive Power care facilities, and compare their basic characteristics, to assess the development trends of the Motive Power Operation and to apply this knowledge in the following courses.

Theoretical instruction:
  1. Required Motive Power number
  2. Traction costs
  3. Lubricant consumption (D i E)
  4. Water consumption (D)
  5. Procedure for calculating train traction costs
  6. Railway vehicle care facilities
  7. Determining the number of train stops
  8. Fuel settlement organization, facilities, and devices for Motive Power supply
  9. Preparation and supply facilities for traction sand
  10. Devices for Motive Power turning.
  11. Devices for Motive Power and wagons displacement
  12. Devices for lowering Motive Power axles and bogies.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Numerical examples from the content of theoretical classes.
