Requirements:
Goal: Introducing students to the concept and content of the environment, the environmental system and the environmental protection system. Introducing students to environmental factors and their characteristics, pollutants, sources of pollution, and protection measures.
Outcome: Students are able to understand the basic ecological principles, phenomena and processes, and to perceive human influences on the modern biosphere.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Ecology as a scientific discipline.
  2. Basic concepts of ecology
  3. Abiotic, biotic and anthropogenic factors
  4. Photosynthesis-significance, mechanism and factors influencing photosynthesis
  5. Heat and temperature
  6. Basic features of the atmosphere
  7. Weather and climate
  8. Land as a complex of environmental factors
  9. Biogeochemical cycles of carbon, hydrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, water;
  10. Biotic factors
  11. The concept of biodiversity and its protection
  12. Environmental and soil pollution
  13. Environmental problems caused by traffic
  14. Ecotoxicology-basic concepts
  15. Toxic effects of some elements on plants, animals and humans.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Auditory and computational exercises follow the program of theoretical classes.
