Requirements:
Goal: During the course, students will be introduced to the basic concepts and settings of railway traffic safety, factors that affect safety, railway safety regulations, and characteristics of devices used for regulation and monitoring railway transport.
Outcome: After passing the final exam, the student will be able to: • define safety-related terms; • determine the criteria for determining the level of railway traffic safety; • analyze and compare safety-operational characteristics of safety devices; • describes different types of railway accidents and incidents and the patterns of their occurrence.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Basic concepts, safety indicators, criteria for determining the level of safety in railway traffic.
  2. The influence of the human factor on the safety of railway traffic.
  3. Safety and operational characteristics of automatic train protection device, driver's safety device, driver's automatic brake valve, and brakes.
  4. Railway accidents and incidents
  5. Normative acts regulating railway traffic safety
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. 1. Examples and detailed analysis of accidents and incidents on railway. 2. Railway safety analysis on Serbian railways in past years. 3. Defining the elements for the seminary work.
