Requirements:
Goal: In this course, students are introduced to the basic concepts and structures of modern technology of freight transport, methodology of planning, management, and handling of all processes in transport chains and combined transport systems, as well as transport across industrial tracks.
Outcome: Upon passing the final exam, the student will be able to:
• recognize and define the role and importance of transport technologies for different participants and users;
• understand the advantages and disadvantages of each element of the system in the transport chain;
• recognize and perform all necessary operations of the pallet, container, and vehicle-to-vehicle transport system and equipment used in combined transport;
• apply knowledge in this area as an introduction to solving problems of more complex problems through software.

Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Railway freight transport technology
  2. Handling of transport units.
  3. The essence and factors of development of innovative transport technologies.
  4. Pallet transport system
  5. Container transport system
  6. Container terminals
  7. Vehicle to vehicle transport systems
  8. Legal and organizational aspects of combined transport (Legislation, conventions, international associations).
  9. Future trends in combined transport.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. 1. Solving problems in the field of palletizing, containerization. 
2. Pallet and container consolidation. 
3. Calculation of container serial number.
4. Optimization of commodity consolidation.
5. Calculation of container, truck, or train loading. Effective cargo loading. 
6. Defining the elements for the seminary work.
