Requirements:
Goal: Acquiring appropriate theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of traffic and transportation economics, the requirements of the traffic and transportation market, and organizational forms of railway enterprises.
Outcome: Students will be able to recognize the interaction of economics and engineering, to understand costs and benefits issues, principles of management in the field of traffic and transportation economics, to understand the requirements of the traffic and transportation market, and to recognize differences in organizational forms, and structures of transport enterprises.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Characteristics of the transport market.
  2. Demand and supply in traffic - research methods of the transport market.
  3. The price of transport services and other services in the transport sector.
  4. Economic dimensions of traffic technology.
  5. Economic cost of traffic and transportation, transaction costs, calculation of costs, and benefits.
  6. Traffic and transportation policy.
  7. Transport organizations.
  8. Economic implication of business management decisions in traffic and transportation.
  9. Economic aspects of innovation and entrepreneurship in transport.
  10. The impact of economic transition on the traffic and transportation sector
  11. The effect of globalization on the transport economy.
  12. Assessment of the effects of market regulation on the regional, national and global transportation services market.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Practical instruction is followed by a lecture program.
