Requirements:
Goal: The course aims to expand the professional - theoretical knowledge about engines and motor vehicles' construction and operational characteristics and the functions of vital parts and assemblies that make up the vehicle.
Outcome: Students acquire the necessary knowledge about the basic characteristics of engines and motor vehicles, basic concepts from the theory of motion, the influence of engines and motor vehicles on the traction and dynamic properties of motor vehicles.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Theory of motor vehicle motion
  2. Construction of motor vehicles
  3. Movement of vehicles with elastic wheels on a hard surface: wheel rolling mechanics, vehicle resistances, traction - dynamic and braking characteristics
  4. Control modes, kinematics, dynamics, and stability of control
  5. Vehicle safety
  6. Economy and environmental problems of vehicles
  7. Propulsion motors
  8. Motor vehicle collision theory
  9. Lubricants, oils, and greases
  10. Classification of motor vehicles and trailers, terms and sizes
  11. Car engine equipment
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. 1. Calculation of engine power. 
2. Reliability of traction vehicle systems and devices and criteria for the definition of reliability. 
3. Damage diagnostics (modules) and damage indicators (registering, indicating, and alarm), spectrography. 
4. Vibroacoustic method for diagnosing diesel engine failures.
5. Visual identification of the elements of the construction of motor vehicles in the depot and introduction to the processes of functioning of individual assemblies and units and the accompanying technical documentation.
