Requirements: Computer architecture, operating systems, computer networks, security.
Goal: Extend analytical and practical knowledge and skills needed to configure and manage virtualization techniques at the application and operating system level, as well as "cloud" computing environments.
Outcome: Training students for designing and solving the problems of operating system virtualization on MS Windows and Linux platforms and realization of modern "cloud" computing environments.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Introduction to the course.
  2. Introduction to virtualization techniques.
  3. Overview of virtualization techniques.
  4. Virtualization for dedicated servers (ESXi, Xen, Hyper-V, KVM).
  5. Desktop virtualization (VDI).
  6. Performance in virtual environments.
  7. Security in virtual environments.
  8. Basics of cloud computing environment (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, fog, edge, containers).
  9. Performance and security in cloud environments.
  10. Examples of cloud computing environments: Amazon, MS Azure.
  11. Examples of cloud computing environments: GoogleAppEngine.
  12. Examples of cloud computing environments: AWS
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. In the lab: Configuring software virtualization tools on various operating systems (VMware, Virtual box, Xen, Microsoft Hyper-V).
