Requirements:
Goal: The objective of the course is to enable students to master basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the area of diagnostics of modern motor vehicles.
Outcome: After successful completion of the course students will be trained to do analysis of basic electrical and electronic systems in motor vehicles and identify different problems in this area using correct methodological approach and modern diagnostic devices.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Safety precautions when working on vehicles and environmental protection.
  2. Diagnostic process of vehicle malfunction determination.
  3. On-board diagnostics. OBD and EOBD.
  4. Technical service information (ESI [tronic], Workshop, Autodata, Elsa Win ...).
  5. Electrical scheme analysis of electronic control system for petrol engines.
  6. Electrical scheme analysis of electronic control system for diesel engines.
  7. Diagnostic communication devices.
  8. Digital multimeters and oscilloscopes for electrical measurements on vehicles.
  9. Batteries for vehicles: principle of operation, partition, basic characteristics.
  10. Battery construction: filling, testing and maintenance, development perspectives.
  11. Starters: principle of operation, basic characteristics.
  12. Construction of starters. Usual constructions for passenger and commercial vehicles.
  13. Generators on vehicles. Specificity of power supply.
  14. Voltage regulation. Usual generator constructions. Overvoltage protection. Cooling. Noise.
  15. Prospects for the development of new diagnostic methods for modern vehicles
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Students independently or with the help of teachers solve the tasks set in the area of diagnostics of modern vehicles, using sophisticated communication and measuring instruments on vehicles.
