Requirements: Knowledge of the courses Elements of power systems and High-voltage apparatus.
Goal: Students introductions to the isolation of the power system, its testing overvoltages that appear on it and over-voltage protection
Outcome: Students will be able to prepare test programs and to participate in studies in maintenance of equipment in operation.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Introduction, types of insulation.
  2. General characteristics of insulation.
  3. External insulation, internal insulation.
  4. Origin of atmospheric discharges.
  5. Types of Surge; Atmospheric overvoltages.
  6. The influence of atmospheric overvoltages on overhead lines.
  7. Switching surges; Quasi-stationary overvoltages.
  8. Overvoltage; On or off with rapid reactivation. Exclusion of small inductive and capacitive currents.
  9. Lightning Protection.
  10. Atmospheric overvoltages in transformer windings.
  11. Surge arresters, capacitors.
  12. Coordination of insulation; level of insulation.
  13. Testing of insulation.
  14. Equipment and devices for testing insulation of electric power systems.
  15. Current and voltage generators, voltage divider.
