Requirements:
Knowledge of the courses Elements of power systems and High-voltage apparatus.
Goal:
Students introductions to the isolation of the power system, its testing overvoltages that appear on it and over-voltage protection
Outcome:
Students will be able to prepare test programs and to participate in studies in maintenance of equipment in operation.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
- Introduction, types of insulation.
- General characteristics of insulation.
- External insulation, internal insulation.
- Origin of atmospheric discharges.
- Types of Surge; Atmospheric overvoltages.
- The influence of atmospheric overvoltages on overhead lines.
- Switching surges; Quasi-stationary overvoltages.
- Overvoltage; On or off with rapid reactivation. Exclusion of small inductive and capacitive currents.
- Lightning Protection.
- Atmospheric overvoltages in transformer windings.
- Surge arresters, capacitors.
- Coordination of insulation; level of insulation.
- Testing of insulation.
- Equipment and devices for testing insulation of electric power systems.
- Current and voltage generators, voltage divider.
