Goal:
Introduction to the basics technologies and techniques for creating optical-chemical and digital images.
Outcome:
The student will be trained for basic professional (documentary and studio), photographing and processing of digital images.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
- Construction and operation of photographic devices, definition of image concepts.
- Capture optics, lens construction, photo-optics laws.
- Mathematical and exponometric values of photo-optics; use of the lens.
- Exposure and exponometry, light, instruments and exposure measurement.
- Basic elements and rules of photographic and artistic composition.
- Digital photo processing, color correction and tonal range.
- Light structures and lightening.
- Light sources, quality, control, measurement and use of light beams.
- General Art Theory. Artistic professions and creative-production relations.
- Studio lighting - theme: scene and light atmosphere.
- Studio Lighting - Theme: Portrait.
- Studio lighting - theme: table arrangement (metal, glass, textile, leather).
- Studio lighting - theme: movement and attraction.
- Digital Video Basics.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
- Getting to know and handling devices and accessories.
- Exterior: taking pictures of the subject.
- Laboratory: a photo processing program.
- Exterior: Photography of the given topics.
- Laboratory: basic processing and correction of realized photographs.
- Studio: application of lenses and compositional rules.
- Studio and Exterior: Exposure and exponometry, lens and composition of the subject.
- Laboratory: filters and procedures for advanced photo processing.
- Studio: shooting a scene with two actors, set a light atmosphere.
- Studio: lighting and portrait photography.
- Studio: table-top lighting and photography. Tonal range control.
- Studio: lighting and photographing actors on the move.
- Laboratory: final photographic processing.
- Studio: photo enhancement.
