Goal:
Getting acquainted with devices and circuits used in audio practice. Acquiring practical knowledge related to the mode of operation, selection, installation, adjustment, connection and use of audio devices.
Outcome:
Outcome of this course is that students master the knowledge necessary to connect, use, adjust and maintain modern audio devices.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
- The basic characteristics, division and purpose of the audio device.
- Audio cables and connectors.
- Audio mixer - basic concepts.
- Audio mixer design.
- Audio mixer use.
- Audio signal flow in studio environment.
- Sound recording and reproduction devices.
- Audio dynamics processing: compressors, limiters, expanders and gates.
- Filters and equalizers.
- Time processing.
- Digital audio interfaces.
- Audio measurements.
- Powering and grounding of audio devices.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
- Practical work with analog audio mixers.
- Practical work with digital audio mixers.
- Practical work with dynamic processing devices
- Practical work with spectrum processing devices
- Practical work with time processing devices
- Tracking, measuring and adjusting the audio signal level.
