Requirements:
Goal: Acquisition of basic and applied knowledge in the field of GIS. Introduction to current GIS tools and areas application of GIS, with special reference to the application of GIS in traffic.
Outcome: Upon completion of the course the student will be able to understand the essence of GIS and to use the acquired knowledge in professional subjects, in formulating and solving traffic problems using GIS.
Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
  1. Introduction to GIS
  2. GIS components: hardware, software, personnel.
  3. Cartography in GIS
  4. Data management: data collection, correction and analysis.
  5. Space databases
  6. Standardization in the field of geoinformation systems and technologies
  7. Basic GIS functions.
  8. Application of GIS in traffic.
  9. Web GIS: concept, origin, development, division and functions.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
  1. Introduction and work with appropriate GIS software tools, practical work, data preparation and input in GIS environment.
