Contents of the course
Theoretical instruction:
- Introductory lecture. Digital TV systems in Europe and the world.
- Forming an SDI signal. Digital signal processing. Multichannel sound formats (5.1 and 22.2).
- Structure of digital television system of different formats (SD, HD, UHD).
- Source coding. Channel coding. Creating a transport stream. Encoders. Decoders.
- Multiplexing the television signal. Digital modulations.
- Regulations (ITU-R.BT601/656, ITU-R.BT709, standards relating to digital TV resolutions, etc).
- Digital satellite television DVB-S/S2.
- Digital cable television DVB-C/C2.
- Digital terrestrial television DVB-T/T2. MFN and SFN networks.
- IP television. DVB-H.
- Web television. Hybrid television, HbbTV.
- Interactive services.
- Video telephone and video conferencing image and sound transmission.
- Required equipment for measurements at transmitter and receiver sides. Measurement procedures.
- Digital TV signal receivers for different platforms.
Practical instruction (Problem solving sessions/Lab work/Practical training):
- Practical exercises follow theoretical instruction in the form of laboratory exercises. Laboratory exercises are performed in groups of 10 students in a digital HD television studio. At the exercises, each of the students receives concrete mini-projects to be realized.
